Tour of Mark Ketner’s Shop

Bob Chapman, Sheldon Cousino, Jim Hranica, Tony Ippoliti, Kelly Metz, Tim Nicholson, Terry Taylor, Al Walton, and Dennis Wilson enjoyed a tour of Mark Ketner’s shop.   

Mark is a long-time woodworker and has made most of the furniture in his home.

Hand-cut Dovetail Class

Erik Feole, Chris Amatos, Scott Blake, Michael Curran, Athena Walton, and Steven Liao participated in a hand-cut dovetail class taught by Russ Frye. 

This decorative joint is found in both antique furniture and modern projects.  Many consider this joint to be beyond the skill level of most woodworkers, but this class showed that most anyone can craft this joint.

Toy Project

We had another very successful year with our toy-making project.  We surpassed last year’s number (3,333 toys) with a total of 3,572 toys!

There were 65 members who either made toys or helped with the sorting and/or distribution of toys.

Sorting of the toys and staging for the delivery of toys took place at the Spring Road Church of Christ. 

Monica Day from Channel 4 visited Missionary Baptist Church and did a segment on our toy drive.

And, finally, we had a front-page article in the Columbus Dispatch.  

We can feel real satisfaction in knowing we’ve brought joy and happiness to thousands of children this Christmas!

Box-Making Class, taught by Dan Martin

Dan presented a box-making class to Lenny Bram, Jerry Rampelt, Keith Hiszem, Tom Potkanowicz, and Chris Amatos.  As one participant commented, it was a master class, not only in making a box, but in shop organization, creating jigs, methods of sanding, use of tools, and much, much more.

Tour of  Trees Are My Business by Alex Berggren

Some 20 members toured Alex Berggren’s shop and lumbering operation at Trees Are My Business.  At the conclusion of the tour, members had a chance to operate the milling machine and take home a live-edge piece of lumber.

WOCO 2025 Club Picnic

Over 50 club members and spouses enjoyed a picnic at McNamara Park.  Thanks to Dave Madison, Leo Steger, Mary Kay Marsh, and Larry Hughes for coordinating this event!

Tour of Dennis Wilson’s Shop

Fourteen WOCO members toured Dennis Wilson’s shop.  Dennis is a master craftsman and his shop is outfitted with most any tool you can think of.

Shaker Box Class

Five club members participated in our Shaker box class taught by Steve Bechtel.  Each member made two of these traditional boxes.

Girl Scout Project

Girl Scout members, including Don Wenzlik’s granddaughter, Scarlett, earning their woodworker merit badges on December 15, 2024, in Dan Martin’s shop.

Toys Distributed to Families

Some 1,400 toys along with other presents distributed to families at the NNEMAP Toy Shoppe.  Channel 4 filmed as part of a segment on our toy drive.

Holiday Toy Program

Channel 4 visits us as we sort almost 4,000 toys going to 18 agencies in central Ohio.  Channel 4 will be doing a segment on our service project.

Girl Scout Program

Bob Chapman and WOCO members assisted a Girl Scout troop with a woodworking merit badge.

NBC Channel 4 Segment on WOCO’s Toy Program

Bob Chapman is interviewed by Channel 4 for a segment on WOCO’s toy drive where over 50 members make over 2,500 toys for area agencies and children.

WOCO Shop Tour

Bob Chapman hosted a shop tour for 16 WOCO members and explained his shop setup and the various tools he uses with his projects.

Karl Hans arranged a tour for club members of Yoder Lumber in Holmes County.
